Food poisoning and contaminated food compensation claims lawyers

Food poisoning is an illness caused by eating contaminated food or drink, including food supplements.  Generally, symptoms can start hours after consuming the contaminated food or drink, and can include vomiting, stomach cramps, and a general feeling of being unwell.

Food poisoning may occur when food has not been cooked or re-heated through properly, has not been stored correctly, has been left out for too long, has been handled by someone who has not washed their hands, or is unwell, or if the food has been eaten after its use-by date.

Usually, food poisoning is caused by Campylobacter bacteria, which is the most common cause of food poisoning in the UK. However, there are also several other conditions such as Listeria, Salmonella and E.Coli.

Whilst symptoms of food poisoning will usually subside within a few days, it can on occasions, be more serious. This can lead to admission to hospital, and sometimes patients can be left with health complications, or long-term conditions.

What to do if you have suffered from food poisoning that was not your fault?

If you have suffered food poisoning at the hands of a third party, there is a three-year time limit for bringing a claim – so it is important to act quickly. It will need to be shown that the product was unsafe to consume, and that this was linked to the injury or illness you sustained. This can be difficult, and as such if you think you have a potential claim, it is essential that you seek expert legal advice as soon as possible.

What can I claim for?

Our specialist team of solicitors can help recover compensation for pain and suffering, treatment costs, and loss of earnings, along with any care that has been provided, and out of pocket expenses. We understand how much of an impact your illness or injury may have had on your financial situation and will always claim for all the losses you have suffered.  Get in touch with our team today to discuss how much you might be able to claim.
