NHS Tayside is to launch a review after 14 breast cancer patients have died following chemotherapy treatment.
It comes after the Health Board have disclosed that hundreds of patients were treated with a lower dose of chemotherapy than was being given throughout other NHS Health Boards in Scotland.
It has been reported by Health Improvement Scotland (HIS) that the Health Board had failed to inform patients of the difference in treatment dosages at the time.
304 patients, who have undergone chemotherapy through NHS Tayside for breast cancer between 1 December 2016 up until this month, have been sent correspondence offering an appointment with an Oncologist.
An independent expert review will now take place to investigate the treatment that the women who died had received.
A spokesman for the NHS Tayside commented: “As part of our response to the HIS report that was published on Monday, NHS Tayside asked an independent expert to review the breast cancer chemotherapy treatment of 14 patients who have died. “
