Our client went into her local supermarket to shop. She was walking along the fruit and vegetable section when suddenly, she slipped on some vegetable material which had been squashed by other shoppers.

As a result of the incident, she suffered from a broken bone in her foot.

How we helped our client

We intimated a claim upon the supermarket where our client's accident occurred. Liability was denied. 

We therefore had to carry out investigations to prove negligence on the part of the supermarket. We instructed a slip test of the floor. This confirmed that contaminated with the vegetable material, the floor was dangerously slippy.

We also recovered a copy of our client's medical records and arranged to have her examined by a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to comment upon her injuries sustained, her recovery and future prognosis. 

Due to the supermarket denying liability for the claim, we required to raise Court proceedings. We argued that the supermarket should have had matting underneath the shelving containing vegetables to reduce the risk of slipping. 

Shortly after raising a court action, and prior to any court hearing, we received an offer to settle Alison's claim. 

Settlement

A settlement of £6,500 was agreed for our client's injuries.
